It needs a fair bit of clean up to begin with. A sharp plane is the best tool. Once it's somewhat smooth I'll work on it with a sander.... and before you know it...... Epoxy time!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SdFMIljihPI/AAAAAAAAAFc/PsAGV8DyW6o/s1600-h/linda-pre-planing.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SdFMIljihPI/AAAAAAAAAFc/PsAGV8DyW6o/s320/linda-pre-planing.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319116345305105650" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SdFMI1_AjII/AAAAAAAAAFk/g2hVywMJ7EE/s1600-h/linda-post-planing.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SdFMI1_AjII/AAAAAAAAAFk/g2hVywMJ7EE/s320/linda-post-planing.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319116349715287170" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Until next time, keep the wind at your back and press on.<br /></div><br />Skipper Jim<br />History AfloatSkipper Jimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13301581594377464924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-976524061618686647.post-6884074997609936322009-03-02T23:46:00.000-08:002009-03-02T23:50:26.890-08:00The beat goes on....Work continues here in the snow... I've been working on this prototype hull... just finished the planking and lifted it off the building board.... Some of the clips will show boats that are being built for one of the books we have planned, while others are just to test the viability of the design.<br /><br />That's it.... .on with the show<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyiogQ86Bq3gsTQg6lvxvFg1S_LcoOr1h7ElVtgx0Gfwjh5izmKKHE8nw5s7zsAXlWAXuXOEEEKHrZYH7gEUQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe><br /><br />Until next time, keep the wind at your back and press on.<br /><br />Skipper Jim<br />History AfloatSkipper Jimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13301581594377464924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-976524061618686647.post-32302221546486478702009-01-28T16:32:00.000-08:002009-01-28T16:46:19.467-08:00No time for boating....In my neck of the woods this is the wrong time for boating... Maybe if you had an icebreaker at your disposal things would be better. But since I don't... no lake for me. Winter is the time for workshop activities. I seem to be up to my neck in projects. That's the way I like things. Once the glue is drying on one boat... I can use the time to jump over to the next one, and the next one, and the next one....Due to my limited work space I've set a build board up so that I can flip it and work on two projects in the same space.<br /><br />A you can see I'm working on a Mahogany Runabout... and suspended beneath is a River Tug. The cardboard on the Runabout is just to give me an idea about the layout I want deck wise... I'll use the cardboard later as a template for the sub deck.<br /><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Ok</span> back to work... The holiday season and other commitments have kept me from building or writing anything. I have projects lined up like bad traffic. So please have some faith that I will get back to business very soon. Of course I doubt that many people actually know of this blog, but that's beside the point.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SUooCPABuiI/AAAAAAAAAEc/DB_QoThhvsk/s1600-h/pondboat.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SUooCPABuiI/AAAAAAAAAEc/DB_QoThhvsk/s320/pondboat.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281077531896822306" border="0" /></a><br /><br />So have a good Christmas or whatever and I'll see you soon.<br />Until next time, keep the wind at your back and press on.<br /><br />Skipper Jim<br />History AfloatSkipper Jimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13301581594377464924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-976524061618686647.post-67061174081971448252008-11-24T19:46:00.000-08:002008-11-24T19:52:23.447-08:00It's darn cold in this part of the world...workshop time is at a minimum despite the number of projects on the go. In a way, that's a good thing. I'd rather be putting stuff down on paper (actually typing on the computer) that is of some interest to some people.<br /><br />I guess I'll be speaking to folks who are "Boat Struck" like myself. Fans of all things nautical, and even more specifically, model boats and all things related to them.<br /><br />I currently have five books on the go. Various types of boats and their histories will be covered. Included in each book will be plans that help the reader build their own model. I'm currently behind on my schedule of getting things done. Partly due to procrastination (I wonder if there is a pill available for that?) and partially due to the fact that I keep coming up with new ideas that take my attention away from things that need doing.<br /><br />I live in a weird world that has a schism down the center of it. Half of it deals with technological work. i.e. writing, blogging, desktop publishing, research, etc, etc. The other half is pure 18th, 19th, and 20th century stuff...boat building (albeit on a smaller scale). Designing and building leaves me covered with pencil lead and dried glue.<br /><br />So there it is for now... my life in a nutshell. I'll try and post things more often. For now let me leave you with a couple of pics of ongoing projects.<br /><br />Until next time, keep the wind at your back and press on.<br /><br />Skipper Jim<br /><a href="http://www.historyafloat.com" target="_blank">History Afloat</a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SM4OwDmc11I/AAAAAAAAACI/BFQSQqdMDw0/s1600-h/hull2.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SM4OwDmc11I/AAAAAAAAACI/BFQSQqdMDw0/s320/hull2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246146834696296274" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SM4OwHC01GI/AAAAAAAAACA/5YtUv-0fsrc/s1600-h/hull1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_P7bI4nMWPS4/SM4OwHC01GI/AAAAAAAAACA/5YtUv-0fsrc/s320/hull1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246146835620615266" border="0" /></a>Skipper Jimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13301581594377464924noreply@blogger.com0
